This may be rodeo's most popular event; however, it is also the most dangerous. Bulls are fast, powerful, buck any-which-way, and can weigh a ton.

The event demands physical prowess and mental toughness of contestants. Horses and pickup men can't be used since cross-blood Brahma bulls will attack horses. So the bullfighter is the bull rider's best friend in the arena.

Judging is based on control, with extra points awarded for spurring. Using only a flat braided rope wrapped around the barrel of the bull's chest, the bull rider keeps one hand free. Riding for 8 seconds is a feat in this event!
