The classic event in rodeo, saddle bronc riding evolved long before rodeo. Cowboys of yesterday would compete on tough broncs when their outfits met. Breaking and training horses to work and for transportation, was part of the Old West. In saddle bronc riding, as well as bareback riding, the cowboy starts his ride by "marking" his horse out of the chute. His spurs must be over the horse's shoulders as the horse's front feet hit the ground or he will be disqualified. To hold on, the saddle bronc rider has only a thick rein attached to his horse's halter. Horse and cowboy are judged by 2 judges in the arena. The cowboy must ride for 8 seconds and will be judged by how well his ride is synchronized with the horse's movements. http://www.codystampederodeo.com/tickets.cfm
