The cowboy with the fastest time wins. There are no points for judging the calf or cowboy in this event. Time is king. And the cowboy's partner is a good roping horse. The roots of this event are traced to working ranches of the Old West. Cowboys had to rope calves in order to doctor them, so you had to be quick and accurate with a lasso. When the cowboy throws his loop & catches the calf, his horse is trained to come to a stop. After the catch, the cowboy dismounts and throws the calf and ties any three legs together with a pigging string. He wraps once and then a half-hitch around the legs within 35 seconds to qualify. Then the calf must stay tied on a slack rope for 6 seconds for the run to count. http://www.codystampederodeo.com/tickets.cfm
